Say "Hello!" to little Pixie!  Pixie is a Miniature Pinscher who is almost 8 years old, and weighs 10 lbs.  Pixie came into rescue because her owner was very ill, and going into hospice.  She is very loving to her foster parents, now that she's gotten to know them, and she makes no trouble with the other dogs in the house.  Pixie loves to walk, and gets excited/happy as soon as she sees a leash.  This is a very good thing, as Pixie was allowed to get a bit overweight!  Continued daily walks and measured meals will soon have her in fine form.  Pixie is spayed.  She has been brought up to date on her vaccines, tested for heartworm, is now on a heartworm preventative and has been treated with a flea and tick preventative.

Pixie will need a very special adopter.  Her foster parent noticed right away that one of her eyes was cloudy.  The vet says she has a cataract in her left eye and a baby cataract in her right eye.  The veterinarian tested her eye pressure; it is normal.  Since she has no swelling at this time, she is not in any pain.  She can still see.  Just let a squirrel cross the road on a walk, and Oh Boy!, you will sure know this is true! However, when cataracts are present, it is likely that vision will worsen over time, and blindness is possible.

Another little quirk about Pixie is that she has a very short lower jaw, and her tongue usually peeks out a bit.  She also lost one of her canine teeth and that makes it even easier for that little tongue to escape!

The original family reported that Pixie is afraid of small children. They said that she runs away from them and hides.  Pixie likes both men and women, but she is extra affectionate to her foster Dad!

Pixie does not play with the other dogs in the house, at least so far.  She is fine with them being close to her, sniffing her, and will even lie right up against one on the couch.  However, if a playful pup pounces on her she will let them know PRONTO that she is NOT interested in those kinds of shenanigans.

Pixie is house trained, and will let you know whether she needs to go out, if you ask her "Do you need to go potty?"  She sleeps through the night and does not need to go out at the break of dawn, Thank Goodness! In fact, she is a little sleepyhead!  Her foster mom wakes her up when the other dogs are letting her know that, hey! it's breakfast time!  At the moment, she sleeps in a crate next to her foster parent's bed.  She is an expert at borrowing under her plush blanket!

Pixie was very confused and upset to find herself in a new home, after years of stability.  At first she was restless day and night, didn't much care to eat or drink, forgot her housetraining, and wasn't very friendly or trusting.  After 3-4 days, she settled in, and has been an absolute joy to have around. New adopters should be patient with her, but expect a very devoted little love bug as a reward for their kindness and patience.
