Minnie
We are so happy to have Minnie in our family! She's such a loving girl. She never lets a lap go to waste, and will make sure she spends time with everyone. She gives the best "hugs," too! When she sits on your lap and leans all the way against you, resting her head on your chest or shoulder, you know you're getting a Minnie Hug (photo #2). She loves going to visit her grandma and grandpa, and she gets so excited when she gets there, she just has to dance around! Minnie's the best. We're glad she decided to keep us!
Bobbi
Say hello to Mia, named after Mia Hamm the soccer star! She's one of the most loving, affectionate and smart dogs you'll ever meet. My girlfriend, Chelsea and I, adopted Mia from Naked K9 six months ago while searching petfinder.com. She's a Boston terrier / chihuahua mix. During the 6 months we've had her, Mia has learned a lot! She rings a bell that hangs from the front door when she needs to go outside. She loves to play fetch and hide n go seek. She knows how to sit, stay, shake with both paws, lay down, roll over, play dead, and is now learning how to play basketball! She is a very smart puppy and loves to play. Mia is now fully house trained. She is trusted to roam the house freely while we're away and loves to sit on the back of the couch and look out the window.
As a whole, we couldn't be any happier with the choice we made. Mia is such a blessing to us and anyone she comes in contact with. Thanks so much to Cecilia and the whole Naked K9 team for what you do. If it wasn't for you guys, we probably would have never met Mia. She just turned 1! We cant say thank you enough! She is our everything!
Pearl
Foster Mom's story:
Pearl was an owner surrender in a backyard breeder situation. She had a litter of 5 puppies but had stopped caring for them. When the call came on September 1st, 2014 asking for someone to come and get her, I went right away to pick her up. The breeder had a history of selling dogs & puppies on a buy/sell/trade site on Facebook and also at Gibraltar Trade Center nearby--the kind of place where they sell guns & knives & have flea markets.
I was uneasy removing her from the puppies but the breeder wanted her gone. She had been bottle feeding the puppies and had another mama that was nursing them as well. It turned out to be a very good decision as I discovered fairly quickly the reason she was not nursing the puppies. She had Pyometra, a life-threatening infection of the uterus that would have killed her without an emergency spay. Pearl was deathly ill when I took her to the emergency vet in the middle of the night but she was able to get the treatment needed to save her life thanks to rescue. I know she would not have received the treatment she needed and would not have survived if she had stayed with the breeder. To be continued...watch for part 2 this afternoon and learn about Pearl life in her adopted family'Âs home!Segment 2 of Pearl's story
Forever Family's story:
I realized in the first month of fostering her that Pearl was meant to stay with me. I had already been fostering for 2 years and I knew the pain of letting a foster go to a new home but this time was different. She had me completely by the heart. I could not fathom her leaving me. Pearl became what we lovingly refer to as a Âfoster failure by the end of October! So far she is my one & only but I am working on Âfailing a second time!
Pearl has blossomed into a happy, healthy, active, athletic & very loving dog. She has a huge personality. She is loving her life as a treasured pet. Pearl is a natural mommy dog to the new fosters that come into our home. I know she would have been a fantastic momma to her own puppies had she been healthy. I enrolled her in Barn Hunt as she has a strong prey drive. She is obsessed with squirrels and rabbits, anything small & fuzzy that moves really! I know she would also like lure coursing. I hope to try it with her. She is very intelligent and needs to keep her mind occupied. My husband says she is one of the most loving dogs we have ever had and he is right! Her world has changed and she truly appreciates us every day!

Foster story part 1: Joey & Marley, the Hooligan Brothers
Joey and Marley moved into my home in November 2012 They were fostered for a year with another family before they came to live with me. They were known there as the Hooligan Brothers and were often a subject in her blog due to their naughtiness. When I picked them up, Joey growled at me the whole way home and Marley curled up, too scared to move. It took them awhile to settle in. They are both extremely shy and fearful dogs. Joey shows his fear by growling and Marley will not let a stranger near him. After a while I found that the real Hooligan was Marley who has written on my couch several times with ink pens and unzipped my purse to steal things ( he has a mischievous streak). Joey really is a very well behaved boy but does like to grumble at strangers. (Watch for part 2 of the Hooligan Brother's story this afternoon at 1pm to hear about life after adoption!)
Part 2: Joey & Marley, the Hooligan Brothers, continued
After having Joey & Marley for awhile, I fell in love with Joey. He is such a clown and so full of life he is irresistible. He did have a failed adoption before he came to live with me since he is not good with strangers. After 3 months I decided that I couldn't imagine life without my Joey Big Ears. I adopted him on 2/2/13. He has come a long way and is currently attending rally obedience class. He will now let a stranger feed him treats but he is not ok with them petting him. I also adopted Marley on 5/5/13. He is even more shy than his brother Joey. It actually took my mom (who comes over 5 days per week) over 2 years to be able to pet him. Most homes don't want a dog that is so shy so I decided Marley would be happiest here. He is an amazing dog, just very scared of the unknown. He is still very naughty but you have to laugh because he is so cute. Unfortunately in rescue we often get dogs that were not properly socialized as puppies. It is a terrible thing for these dogs and many have trouble working through these issues. It may seem great to have a 1 person dog but it isn't good for your dog. Please take the time to socialize your puppies. I am so glad to be able to give Joey and Marley their forever home. My life wouldn't be complete without them!
